The only reason I am justify giving this store one star is because their selection of craft goods is decent, but that’s about the only good thing about this Joann’s location. There’s never a cashier at the checkout counters. You either have to stand there and wait, search the store for someone to check you out (Yes, you actually have to look for someone to rant your money!!!), or wait, wait, wait until an employee shows up. On my most recent visit to this store, I found a bottom to push for customer service. It still took the Store Manager nearly 5 minutes come ring me out! When I asked her if it was normal for them not to have a cashier at the front of the store, her response was, «We’re a small store. We can’t have the luxury of having a cashier stand around and wait to check people out.» She then pointed to a sign that instructed customers to check out in the back of the store. Her sign would have been more effective had it been turned around so the customers could read it. All I saw was the back of a piece of paper. Yep, I should have walked out, but I had my 5yo daughter with me who was having a grand olé time screaming, «Hello? Is anybody there?» She never got a response. She also never got a response when she said hi to the manager and tried to talk to her. Joanne’s, I advise you to either close this location or find a staff that gives a d-mm about their jobs. And for Pete’s sake, at least try and be friendly to kids. My daughter gave you a hello and a smile. At least look at her.

The lines don’t move very fast at this location either, like the one in Aurora. The selection is also smaller, though the store is smaller too. The staff are attentive and want to be helpful, so that’s good.

A pretty decent sized craft store with most supplies, sewing fabrics and articles and seasonal items you’re looking for.

I’m going to say the most important thing about Joanne Fabrics first. They except competitors coupons. As in Hobby Lobby & Michael’s coupons. I’m no extreme couponer, but Joanne and Hobby Lobby have great apps that provide coupons, and Michael’s has a great mobile site (super easy to pull up coupons & promos). I pretty much get 4050% every item, which makes me happy, cause crafting gets expensive.
Well back to this specific location. It’s really small compared to most Joanne stores. And checking out is always painfully slow. But I always find what I need so enough complaining from me. Back to crafting I go!

I agree with the previous posters. This small store has exceptionally bad customer service and the lines are always long. Recently I received a sewing machine as a gift but really wanted another brand. When attempting to return the $ 400 machine with the gift receipt the clerk said that I could only receive a store credit! The gift receipt clearly indicated the price paid when the clerk entered the receipt number into the register, yet they wanted to give me a store credit. Yeah, right. Like I would spend that much in that store. Luckily the gift-giver gave me the original receipt a couple days later and I returned the machine for a full refund. Thanks Joann fabrics. You gave Hancock fabrics another customer. I’d rather drive to Schaumburg than give this store another dime. Btw, get some updated fabrics. Even Hobby Lobby has a better selection.

Tiny store but I found what I needed. Sales are pretty excellent — I got a lot of stuff for almost nothing, which I almost felt a little guilty about. Had a bit of a snag using a gift card at the register but maybe it was just a training issue and we got it worked out.

Super small store, but they had what I was looking for.
I’ve been on a fabric haul ever since I bought my sewing machine. The fabric selection is pretty much the same as the other Jo-Ann’s I’ve been too, not too much new variety. I keep coming back because of their Sunday coupons which helps make my sewing habit a little cheaper… I wouldn’t dare buy anything without a coupon.

Small store and really crappy customer service. I went in looking for yarn and had a couple of specific questions; after a few minutes of poking around amid their seemingly «no rhyme or reason» setup in that department, I looked around for an employee to collar. I asked the woman if she knew anything about the department (or if not could she find someone who did since I had some particular questions); she said she knew «some». So I asked, and her response was basically, go to one of the bigger stores, with no closure to the transaction (she essentially just walked away).
So don’t even bother with this place; if you feel the need to go to a Joann, hit the bigger one on 59. The staff here will probably shuttle you off there anyway, and the customer service couldn’t be any worse there than it is here.

Just picked up some material from this store. One item was a half yard cut that was undercut by just over an inch. I should have double checked the piece in the store seeing as how the employee repeatedly asked me how long the cut should be (and then proceeded in taking 10 minutes to cut it). So basically now I need to go all the way back to a store just for an 18 inch wide piece of material. Thanks lady. Cutting fabric is not that hard, if you need help just ask. PS use a ruler next time.

I didn’t expect much of this store when I pulled up. It was obviously quite small and the sign looked old. I had a flashback to the horrible Villa Park store. However, when i went in, I was pleasantly surprised.
True, it’s not one of the giant new stores that has framing and cards and does your laundry and walks the dog for you, but it’s a good store. I was in a bit of a rush, but they seemed to have a decent selection of fabrics and fall decorations. I found the two things I needed and spied a couple more that I wanted. I didn’t buy any fabric on this trip, so I can’t say how fast or slow the cutting counter is. It did seem to take a bit for the woman in front of me to get through the checkout, though I don’t know if it was a slow cashier or slow customer. However when it came my turn to pay, she did point out that I could grab a flier from behind me where there was a 40% off coupon. I thought that was nice of her.
All in all, a great store if you’re looking for some basic sewing items.

This store is one of the smaller Jo-Ann’s. It’s not a superstore, so don’t be expecting super-ness.
The store is well-stocked and has a great variety of craft stuff and fabrics. Nice sale section where you can get cool fabrics for super cheap. Great organizational tools for crafters (boxes, hangers, cubbies, and umm… organizational doohickeys). I also like the selection of patterns, dyes, paints, and paintbrushes.
The Jo-Ann staff is very helpful in ordering things and in checking other stores for materials you might need but they don’t carry.
I have two gripes with this store:
1) The service is slooooow. The counter-cutter people are usually also the cash register people, so they have to run from one side of the store to the other. This is not their fault. I’m sure someone in charge of hiring decided that getting a few extra people to work would be not cost efficient. I usually end up buying pre-cut fat quarters because I’m too lazy to wait at the cutting counter.
2) The book section in the back is incredibly difficult to look through. The books are stacked behind each other, jammed tightly into little basket things so you can’t flip through them. It’s too bad, because they have lots of great titles and selections you might not see at, say, Borders or something. If the books were displayed sideways so you could see the titles on the spines, and grouped by subjects, it would be much easier to find what you’d like.

I would agree with Robyn C. that this store rates a 2.5. The first time I was at this location I was shocked by the size of this store — however my «usual» Jo-Ann’s is a super store so my perception a normal store size was a bit off.
During my most recent visit to this location I went in knowing that it wasn’t as large and the selection was scaled. However I didn’t expect it to be as scaled as much as I found it too be. I was specifically looking for Bernat yarn as part of a «Random Acts of Kindness» gift for someone who lives London. (They don’t have this kind of yarn there and the person I was buying for just loves it so it’s really important I get the right kind.) Since I was in the area returning other items at different store I figured I could run in and out and pick up a skein, or two, of the yarn requested and ship the package off (the post office is right next door) all during my lunch hour. Think again! They had the brand of yarn I was looking for just not the type — baby boucle/baby coordinates vs. wool/bamboo/cotton.
The lesson I learned from this outing was that never assume each Jo-Ann’s is the same. Not only was I not impressed with the size and selection at this location, I also wasn’t impressed with the customer services. There was a sales person standing right in front of me as I wandered around and not once did she ask me if I needed help.
All in all, I would only go to this Jo-Ann’s if I knew what I was looking for was going to be there.

A 2.5 rating. Good for sale items, but not a huge selection of anything. It’s a teeny-tiny store with really long waits. The yarn selection is exceptionally bad. I can’t figure out why it’s always packed, but I guess no one wants to venture to the larger Jo-Ann stores and crowds this one. Wear comfortable shoes, you’re going to be standing in line awhile.
